Abstract

This article examines the life and work of José Santos Chocano, one of the main exponents of Peruvian modernism. Through a survey of his literary career, it highlights his role in the construction of an American poetic identity. It also briefly analyses the influence of Friedrich Nietzsche's thought on Peruvian modernism and its impact on Chocano.
