The characters of El señor de Bembibre (1844) from the perspective of literary geography

Abstract

Based on the narratological studies of Greimas, we analyse the space occupied by the actors and actants in Enrique Gil y Carrasco's El señor de Bembibre (1844), with the aim of unravelling the spatial construction of the play. The starting point, therefore, is a broad approach, in which the contributions of the spatial turn, and especially of literary geography, are also central, as well as historical questions related to the figure of the author, who comes to be understood as an autoethnographer of his region.
