Abstract
When the civil war began in 1936, Baroja had to abandon Spain and move voluntarily to France. After a few years, he wrote his impressions of those congested days in a book titled La Guerra civil en la frontera. Due to the censorship, the work was kept unpublished by Baroja’s family for more than fty years and it was nally published in 2005. The aim of this article is to analyze the techniques used by Baroja in order to remember one of the most traumatic episodes of the recent Spanish history.
