Abstract

This work aims to highlight the relevance of the character of Susana San Juan in Juan Rulfo’s novel Pedro Páramo as illustrative instance and criticism instrument of the patrimonial, Judeo- Christian, and patriarchal social model represented by the people in Comala. The text identi es the mythical construction of Susana San Juan on the part of the landowner as another consequence of the aforementioned model, and it also analyzes the way in which the woman Susana San Juan challenges the archetypical garment that both landowner and society impose her as a result of her body freedom. In that territory of the naked, real body as resistance and dissidence, arises the lucid fatalism that in Rulfo’s work only conceives a single release: the absolute escape through madness and daydream. state. The tragic manner in which Susana San Juan reaches human suffering turns into social, cultural, religious, and existential denounce.
