Escenarios de Madrid en los tiempos del Capitán Alatriste
Abstract
El capitán Alatriste is the novel with which, in 1996, Arturo Pérez-Reverte inaugurated the series devoted to this eponymous character. The action takes place in Madrid during the first quarter of the XVIIth Century. This is an adventure novel in whose pages its didactic nature stands out, with its broad description of customs, festivals and ambience of the period, characterised by its enlightened and its dark features. Furthermore, there is a detailed description of the workings of the «corrales de comedias» where Lope de Vega put on one of his plays Los arenales de Sevilla. The novel constitutes a true literary route in which the author leads us by the hand through the Madrid of the period.
