Abstract

Guillermo Sucre (Venezuela, 1933) is considered to be one of the greatest critics of Latin American poetry of the 20th century, and his books Bor-ges, el poeta (1967) and La mascara, la transparencia (1975) are essential to the study of Latin America ́s modern poetry. In the present article, I analyze the main concepts of the critical essays published by Sucre from 1968, paying special attention to the political implications of his aesthetical ideas.
