Cervantes y Avellaneda: historia de una enemistad (primera parte)
Abstract
This article analyzes the possible reasons why Cervantes postponed the publishing of the Second Part of Don Quixote;, the circumstances in which Alonso Fernández de Avellaneda’s Quixote was conceived and published (both print runs in Tarragona, 1614); the critics and readers’ reactions to this work; its influence on 1615 Don Quixote, and the reasons why Avellaneda may have changed his admiring attitude towards Cervantes in the novel for the insulting tone of the prologue.
