Abstract

La verdad sobre el caso Savolta (1985) by Eduardo Mendoza presents to the reader an inconclusive ending. The narrative adopts the form of a Borgian labyrinth and it makes it impossible to figure out the truth that the title alludes to. Using the detective novel as the literary frame, the author gradually leads us to an imprecise reality in which each individual has his own version of the events and in which the concept of truth is almost always linked to power. Those who have the control have the chance to determine what truth is made known and the purpose behind it. In the end, the only definite thing is the existence of multiple truths.
