La sombra de Sarmiento en la poesía de Borges
Abstract
From “El general Quiroga va en coche a la muerte” in Luna de enfrente (1925) to La tentación in “El oro de los tigres” (1972), Jorge Luis Borges had in mind for inspiration Domingo Faustino Sarmiento’s life and work, to whom he also dedicated some articles, references in his essays, and prologues apart from being anthologised in his Libro de Sueños. This piece of work analyses Sarmiento’s shadow in Borges’ lyrical work showing the different facets of this presence together with the evolution of his emblematic role in Argentina’s history. Considered by Borges as an immortal figure, Sarmiento lives in the avatars of the motherland’s culture, and as stated in the poem El otro, el mismo, “Sarmiento, the dreamer, continues to dream us”.Downloads
