Abstract

In life, as in poetry, the time approaches us and intimidate us with their presence by staining what we are. This can become memory and with it the assumption of a fact as abstract as it is the memory of happiness. The poetry of Luis Garcia Montero is aware that the passage of time and our mutual coexistence are an inseparable part of who we are. So that love -both physical and psychological- is subject of these same rules. However, we perceive a significant difference in the conception of this fact. In his early poems we could perceive a conception of the time and love as entities able to dictate their own cosmic rules, yearning the retaining a moment of the beloved body, circumventing the laws of temporality. However, we believe that Garcia Montero with Vista cansada bringing fundamental change that continues with Un invierno propio: Love will remain a spirit faculty with inmortality vocation, but the poetic subject assumes that all gets old. Love will help him percieve the world with the clear awareness of the passage of time; accepting that the real happiness of memory is not to stop time in bodies, but live in harmony with its future.
