Ascensión y caída en la poesía amorosa de Pedro Salinas
Abstract
Dynamics of raising and falling mark part of the poematic structure in Pedro Salinas’ works La voz a ti debida, Razón de amor and Largo lamento. In this article, after going through the motif of ascent and fall in the literary tradition (reference is made to mystic literature, Neoplatonism, the myths of Icarus and of the fallen angel, romantic poetry and Baudelaire’s poetry), the raising and falling elements present in some of the poems of this love trilogy are analyzed. The lyric «I», who wants to reach the fullness of his love (which is related with the raising), is also aware of his impossibility and failure to achieve his aim (indicated with the falling). This movement should’t be understood as linear since after moments of highest elevation, others of falling arise; but, when everything seems to finish, the flight to heights appears again. However, as it will be showed clearly in Largo Lamento, despite the struggle of the lyric «I» to save his love, failure and fall turn out to be unavoidable.Downloads
