Abstract
The article analyzes the letter that a numerous group of intellectual and Spanish writers published in November, 1906, on the occasion of the Director’s choice of the Spanish Academy, put to that Alejandro Pidal y Mon and Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo were aspiring. This letter is reproduced, as well as other journalistic testimonies of the epoch. The analysis of the different texts demonstrates that more than one I support Menéndez Pelayo, the letter was a sudden and massive act of revolt, on the part of the great majority of the young writers and intellectual Spanish, against a politicization of the Academy.Downloads
