Abstract

The conception of the academic edition of Lope de Vega’s works had to overcome numerous obstacles and resistance. Its weakest element, the fixation of the texts, was soon superseded by a new series coordinated by Cotarelo, and was excluded in the postulates of the Centro de Estudios Históricos. In contrast, the prologues of the comedies acquired an independent status in the Estudios sobre el teatro de Lope de Vega and were highly influential for shaping the poetic ‘neopopularism’ and in the transformation of the dramatic canon of the «Fénix de los Ingenios» (the Phoenix of Inventiveness).
