Abstract

The review is based on an anthology entitled Leopardi. El desierto, la retama y el volcán: Anthology by Professor Cristina Coriasso Martín-Posadillo. It proceeds with an introduction to the work in which its parts are described, emphasizing the stylistic and content choices made by the author. It then moves on to the analysis of the Zibaldone, the Operette morali and the Canti, works under examination in the anthology that are masterfully translated and reworked into a homogeneous and coherent whole. It considers the linguistic and philosophical analysis of three texts: Historia del género humano, El infinito, La retama o la flor del desierto. For each of these pieces, the universality of Leopardi's poetic message is always emphasized, and does not lose its ultimate meaning in the painstaking work of translation and revision; the relationship between Leopardi's poetry and thought, and his nihilistic pessimism and lyrical essence is examinated; and it is demonstrated how the work delves into critical aspects in the round and makes them known and usable in the Spanish reality thanks to the mastery that Professor Coriasso demonstrates, both of the philosophical and literary dimensions of the great poet, Giacomo Leopardi.
