Abstract

This article provides a systematic overview of the Case-Based Research (CBR)
methodology in the context of Medical and Health Sciences Education (MHSE). CBR is a
methodology that emphasizes the in-depth study of individual cases in order to obtain a detailed
and contextualized understanding of the phenomena under investigation, making it a tool of
epistemic value for MHSE. Objective: Identify the basis of CBR, design, rigor criteria, and specific
aspects of its scientific communication. Methods: Through a review, synthesis of the literature, and
good practices, this article provides guidance to researchers on how to implement CBR. Conclusion:
CBR is a valuable methodology in health sciences and medical education, but its implementation
requires rigorous design, established quality criteria, and effective scientific communication.
