Abstract
In the international level, early childhood education and care has received unprecedented attention in the public and political spheres during the last years, and, in consequence, the great majority of the European countries have set strategic policy goals to increase both quantity and quality of the provision within this sector. Nevertheless, the rationale behind the current goals in the European context are seldom about children and their rights, but around common interests mostly economic due to political agendas are driven by shared concerns about employment, competitiveness, and gender equality. That is why there is a clear need to broaden the development from this analysis and from the use of these measures in the state policy debates.Downloads
