Abstract

The aim of this paper is reflect on some analogies between Kant and Wittgenstein. In the first part «Philosophy and the Limits of Sense» I expose Wittgenstein’s solution to the Kantian problem of the limit and I underline that the linguistic turn is not so harmless to transcendental philosophy as it is supposed to be. In the second part, I examine the Kantian «Refutation of Idealism» and its similarities with Wittgenstein’s «private language argument. Kant’s tenet to the effect that for temporal determination something permanent ––and not a mere representation–– is required is discussed in connection with both public criteria of use and techniques for fixing meanings.
