Abstract

Imagination remains a cardinal concept in L'être et le néant. It first attested of freedom; in what sense can it be said to be its "transcendantal condition" (L'imaginaire)? It is perhaps possible to find the outlines of an answer if we refer to the double link between Value and image. On the one hand, Value, that phenomenological ontology sets as the horizon of the Pour-Soi project, is throught in accordance with the concept of image. On teh other hand, Value, for it is out of reach, "presentifies" itself in concrete existence thanks to the mediation of image, which appears in bad faith, belief, dream, alienation and intersubjectivity. It may therefore be suggested that Value -which is not, porperly speaking-, is nothing but the philosophical expression of a Pour-Soi that reflects, alienates and transcends himself -i.e. that ek-sists- effectively by means of imagination.
