Abstract

This paper concerns Merleau-Pontyʼs phenomenology and his own appraisal of the most significant aspects of Husserlʼs thought. Merleau-Pontyʼs early conception of phenomenology as «style» was fully developed as a phenomenology of perception, language and body in their «inherence in the world». The implications of the phenomenological field led him to the conception of a new «indirect ontology» which constitutes the main key to his last philosophical position. «La chair du monde» is not limited to a regional ontology, but is an element of Being in the sense of the ultimate coach of reality comprising man and world.
