Abstract

The article analyzes the relation of proximity and distance that exists between Arendt’s and Kant’s thoughts. The idea of Will is the hermeneutic-key to this comparison. An attempt is made to clarify how the indeterminacy of the theoretical status of the idea of Will in Arendt’s philosophy can bring forth an inflection point in the examination of the problematic relation that Arendt establishes with Kant’s work. This controversy concerns the limits of Practical Reason. Finally, the analysis focuses on the Arendtian proposal of understanding the Will as a political faculty and in its enigmatic connection with the idea of spontaneity in Kant.
