Abstract

The concretion of suffering and the objectivity of social progress are the two main elements from which Adorno and Lukács, respectively, raise their voices to unmask the consequences of vitalism as well as formal rationalism and to claim for the social and philosophical need of new patterns of rationality. In this article we analyse their respective options and developments: a therapeutic rationality for a reason that measures in each wounded body its degree of selfdestruction; and an antagonistic rationality that has to be up to the class struggle, in the case of Lukács. In the biopolitical context of new capitalism, that presents a new relation between life and politics, the contribution of these two philosophers offers important clues to think in the crack of rationality.
