Abstract

Accusing Socrates of corrupting the youth, as it was done in public trial before his death, seems at first sight to be something of a paradox, taking into account the fact that Socrates has been a Western model for virtue as well as for the transmission of knowledge. From a number of viewpoints, however, this accusation makes sense: as a misunderstanding of the erotic practices of the period, as a reference to the antidemocratic historical time of the Thirty of Athens and. finally, as a questioning of the principles of authority and tradition, favouring intellectual ism and the primacy of the individual exertion of reason. From this, broader perspective. Socrates would again be condemnable.
