Abstract

This article examines the posibility of binding the republican view of citizenship with cosmopolitanism as a political expression of moral universalism. First, it is revised the prejudice which historically links republicanism to particularity Thereafter. I take into account how republicanism, as theory of liberty based on the public realm, would be possible in the present global political space. Finally, i consider the normative tension between particular citizenship and a universal view of cosmopolitanism, and suggest the idea of a republicanism being politically embodied in a cosmopolitan way.
