Abstract

This papers is concerned with the role ethics is supposed to play in global culture. First, a brief survey on global ethics is roughly outlined; secondly some global poverty, the degration og natural enviorement, or the impact of the politics of new transnational companies are reviewed; and finally a prospect on what is to be counted for global ethics and some of its severe political shortcomings are purpoted in connection with recent international proposals and formal declarations. A tentative conclusion to be drawn is that democratic values such as political accountability, the balance of dispersed interests or the availability of free and unbiased information appear likely to be incompatible with the current politics of transnational trade.
