Abstract

The inevitable intervention of subjectivity in the knowledge process already lead to scepticism in Greece, when philosophical reflection was centred on the empiric aspects of same. Coming out of that isolation or enclosure as things are in which the subject is considered (even in the present criticisms of the notion) is only possible by discovering the most basic moments of subjectivity through which it is necessarily open to the other reality (to the world and to others) since this opening or acceptance of its finitude constitutes a condition of possibility for it. This was something which Descartes with his analytical method was unable to achieve, but which Kant and Fichte did achieve through synthetic transcendental reflection.
