Abstract

This contribution analizes the attempt of John Dewey to dissolve the dicotomy established by traditional philosophy between ends and means of an action, wich he considered to be responsible for the isolation of practical disciplines form the advance of theoretical knowledge. In order to this, the part played by consequecnces of a practical choice on a final valuation of the latter is explained; as a result of it, Dewey will substitute the "end-in-itself" teleological concept for the "end in view" dialectical concept, conceived in order to do justice to the ends-means natural continuum.
