Abstract

Ethics has a problematical and aporetic approach in the Frankfurt School. In this presentation the strong moral demands that Critical Theory articulates are shown to be contradictory and the philosophical reasons for suchcharacterization are analysed. The hypothesis that recurrent criticism to Kantian moral philosophy lies in the root of this philosophical position is sugested and, from the perspective of contemporary moral philosophy, it is argued that the Kantian modality of practical necessity is what allows us to understand our capacity of moral judgement and not, as reasonably happens in Critical Theory in the light of historical experience, the modality of possibility that has to be taken to be impossible and contradictory.
