Abstract

This paper aims to expound the features shaping a "character of being" which has been called "postmodernity". These features are not to be treated as an inventory of issues which have been overcome and need to be eliminated, but as a set of possibilities which have to be freed, and allowed to give their fruits, so that they facilitate a different way of thinking. Taking as a starting point the distinction, established by Plato at the end of the Fedro, between "writing in water, black" and "writing in the soul", this paper examines the characteristics which can be attributed to so-called "postmodernity", emphasizing how they could be made more philosophically relevant and fructify as a "task of thinking". This trans-valuation means in fact a new valuation of postmodernity, an affirmative thinking.
