Abstract

From 1795 to 1814, the territories that will form Belgium from 1830 were annexed by France. In the first part of this article, we analyse the sociopolitical and identity situation of these “unified countries” throughout these two decades; in the second part, we examine its sociolinguistic evolution under the French regime; in the third part, we study the cultural and literary features of this “French Belgium” starting from some of the most important intellectuals.
