Abstract

In 1936 the company Pitoëff premiered in Paris Angelica, satirical drama in three acts, written in French by Leo Ferrero. The Italian author was in exile in France since 1929 with theconviction to become a French writer and never return to his country, ruled by Mussolini at the time. However, due to the premature death of Ferrero, Angelica was shown posthumously and one of most critical voices against fascism was silenced. We propose a study on the international significance of this drama against the totalitarian threat, as it became anticipatory of Spanish Civil War and the Second World War.
