Abstract

In Mac orlan's world, there is no finer and more daily continous relationship with nature and animals, celebrating the fertile and mysterious ground, the proliferation of trees and plants, the tender devotion of dogs and the cheeky tittle-tattle of birds. Inseparable from his sentimental. literary and spiritual adventure, animals, prodigiously gifted for giving everything, set the foundations for an art of living, feeling and thinking. The varied bestiary -from rats to camels, from mules to pigeons- gives a firm stand with concrete reality and offers a lesson of natural science; at the same time it involves metaphysical implications which the permanent reference to saint francis of Asisi justifies.
