Abstract

This review examines Thomas D. Wilson’s Exploring Information Behaviour (2026), published by Editum as an updated Spanish translation of the original work and as the first title in the publishing series of the UNESCO Chair in Information Management at the University of Murcia. The book offers a first-person retrospective reflection by one of the field’s most influential authors on the evolution of information behaviour, focusing on the main problems, concepts, models, and questions that have shaped the discipline. The review highlights the conception of information as a signal open to interpretation and of information behaviour as a phenomenon that extends beyond document searching to encompass the many ways in which people interact with information in everyday, academic, professional, and organisational contexts. The author examines the influence of personal, social, organisational, and emotional factors on information needs and practices, as well as the diversity of sources, channels, and situations involved in these processes. He also presents the evolution of the field’s main models and their application through different methodological strategies, emphasising the relationship between theory and empirical research. The review particularly values the book’s integrative and interdisciplinary approach, its educational usefulness for students, researchers, and professionals, and its contribution to making available in Spanish one of the fundamental conceptual frameworks for understanding human interaction with information in changing contexts.
