Abstract

The book "La Clasificación bibliográfica decimal" (The Universal Decimal Classification) by Luis Méndez Albarrán is study in its historical context. This work is a didactic edition of the UDC with a lot of observations of use about its notations. The UDC is distinguished as a tool that make easy the systematic access to the information, independently to the linguistic problems that offer the other documental languages. It is pay attention about the present importance of the c assification system in order to organize the bibliographic resources. It is pointed out as conditionants of the UDC, the adecuation grade of the notations to the specific characteristics of the library resources and to the cataloger proffesional skills which could be responsable of the formal aspects of notations and the catalog coherence
