Abstract

     Diversification strategies and their influence on firm performance have been one of the most outstanding issues in Strategic Management literature. In this regard, our paper analyzes two of the more common variables studied along with the diversification: firm profitability and risk level. More specifically, we try to check the Resource Based View of the Firm’s postulates regarding the superiority of related diversification for enhance firm profitability and reduce risk level. This analysis is focused on tourist industry because of its great economic importance, the growing interest it has raised, and its continuous growth and diversification process in recent years. Our results are similar to those obtained in previous papers and confirm some of the links between diversification, profitability and risk proposed from the above mentioned theory.
