Abstract

Since the beginning of the financial crisis in 2007-2008, reports on financial scandals have been published regularly. Advisers working in European banks must counteract the mistrust that has manifested itself, especially in sensitive private banking. This article discusses how private banks try to form a relationship of trust with their clients in an aesthetic economy. Providing first elements for an Anthropology of Confidence it explores the emotional work practices of the advisors, the barely researched aesthetic-sensorial aspect of their daily work, the concretion of the work with confidence in the interactions of the consultant with its clients as well as the architectural and aesthetic design of the banks and their affective-sensorial dimension, which together seek to create a specific environment and emotions of trust.
