LA SINGULAR FUERZA SEMÁTICA DE LA SINTAXIS
Abstract
As words are the linguistic units that express the states of affairs more clearly and precisely than any other, mos of the weight and attention in the study of meaning has traditionally been laid on lexical semantics. This paper claims that a great deal of the communicative meaning in an utterance can be found not only in lexical units but in the syntactic arrangements and the syntactic components of utterances as well. For this purpose, it attempts to examine several syntactic strategies, like passivization, thematisation, nominalisation, hedging, anacoluton, etc, on the one hand, and some syntactic components, like conditional clauses, concessive clauses, adverbs, etc, on the other, which are unambiguous carries of valuable semantic information, from a communicative point of view.Downloads
