Abstract

This work studies the origins of mineral names from some of the earliest Hispanic texts. The Etymologies of San Isidoro have been traced back to find works produced in Castilian, when the formation mechanisms of the words used to denominate minerals were inherited. However, numerous cases of synonymy appear from the coexistence between different cultures solved through diverse forms when modern Mineralogy was born.
