Abstract

The arbitrariness of the linguistic sign, defended by Saussure, has been long accepted by the majority of linguists. On the basis of Peirce´s contributions, the motivation of some linguistic signs has been taken into consideration. In this paper we will take into account the motivated nature of some sintagmatic constructions in Spanish, whose diagrammatic configuration reflects the configuration of facts in experience or else, the configuration of facts the sender wants to transmit to the addressee. Syntactic constructions are motivated, in the first place, isomorphically: a change in content prompts a change in expression. We try to analyze synonymic or homonymic disadjustments by means of the pertinent deacritics. We try to justify the fact that, when two concepts become narrowly linked, the correlative expressions are also narrowly related. In addition, the different lineal organization of the linguistic constituents is frequently motivated by the particular arrangement of the facts in the world or by the sender´s perspective.
