CONSIDERACIONES A PROPÓSITO DE AHORA, ANTES, DESPUÉS/LUEGO Y ENTONCES. TIEMPO Y ORDENACIÓN DEL DISCURSO (I. AHORA)
Abstract
Our intention in this paper is to reflect on the use of some time adverbs (antes/ahora/después/luego and entonces) which, in certain contexts, modify their original time meaning and turn into connectors, sequiencers or discourse makers. In the first part of the paper, different features connected to the existence and use of ahora are dealt with, signalling the original function of time coincidence between an event and the speech act. That coincidence suggests a series of nuances which show how the speaker tries to bring non currect facts near his/her present time when the message has been sent, has been emphasized. Further more, it could be said, that the aim is to highlight the contrast. Acting firstly as an indication of time "confrontation" between two moments, then ahora acts as a link between opposite clauses, going through a clear process of grammaticalization where this adverb loses its semantic and original time values. Something similar happens to other adverbs, as it will be discussed in the second part of the paper.Downloads
