The influence of the age variable in the linguistic variation of Mérida (Badajoz). results and analysis of new attitudes
Abstract
Since the introduction of sociolinguistics, the studies so far conducted from that perspective have provided solutions that reveal linguistic variation of speech communities. In this paper we will analyze whether the variable “age” has an influence on the selection of phonetic variants in the speech of Mérida. We will thus demonstrate whether patterns can be traced in the use of innovative sounds in this area by some generations today. In addition, it will also be checked whether these tendencies are influenced by the informants’ social status. to do so, we will analyze linguistic and extralinguistic correlations so as to gauge the current speech of the extremenian town under analysis.
