Structural Analysis of Psychosocial Predictors of Stress in University Students in Multi-Religious Border Environments
Abstract
The main goal of university students is to enter the labour market. In addition to the need to pay attention to socioemotional components, the obstacle to accessing the labour market generates stress in this population. Therefore, the aim of the study is to analyse the socio-demographic profile of university students and to relate it to psychosocial variables, motivation and social skills, predictors of stress in university students. The sample consisted of 423 university students from the University of Granada. Three questionnaires were used, the Academic Motivation Scale, the Social Skills Scale and the Questionnaire to Measure Perceived Stress. For data analysis, Student's t test was used for dichotomous variables and one-factor ANOVA for polytomous variables to analyse whether there were statistically relevant differences; a correlation was established to analyse the relationship between the constructs and a structural equation model was developed to explain the predictability of some variables in relation to others. The results indicate that motivation positively influences stress coping and stress reduction. Thus, university institutions should develop intervention strategies that include specific goals articulated with student interests.
