Abstract

This article acknowledges there has been remarkable progress in creating opportunities for inclusive education, person centred planning and constructive long term change.  However, while the author is optimistic about the possibilities, the themes are words of caution regarding some areas where slippage is already happening, and unchecked, could be very dangerous.  In particular, the ‘colonization’ of the language of inclusion so it no longer has meaning, and the resurgence of the eugenics movement which could undermine much of the progress of recent decades of work.  Meanwhile, there are remarkable glimpses of the futures we want in stories from around the world.
