Abstract

In a wide sense, innovation is any change that generates value. Applied to high education, the promotion of innovation is contemplated as the change that seeks the teaching improvement, as a facilitating system for the improvement of the quality in education. In this sense, in order to promote an education of quality, universities must regulate the educational level of their teachers. That's why programs oriented to promote teachers development in the different aspects involved in their function are needed. This is the topic we want to deal with in this article. For this, we will make, in the first place, a revision of the concept and the areas of innovation. Then we analyze university teachers education and the innovation in high education. In third place, we present the model of education suggested by the University of Santiago de Compostela for its teachers and then we analyze these actions. Finally, we present the conclusions of our study and we suggest some actions for the future.
