Abstract

The debate on the roles of the University demands the revision of its very epistemology, since it is not enough just to conceptualize and understand the University and its role in society, it is important understand, instead, what teaching is. In this insightful article, it is shown a qualitative, reflexive research; supported on documental consultation, which leads to an analysis about the role of Higher Education in knowledge production in the current cultural climate. It is imperative the insertion of Higher Education institutions in the world’s new dynamics, opening their doors, taking down barriers that disconnect them from society, expanding their perspective of institutional action, relating them with the international academic world. Hence, it is important to move forward on the transdisciplinary knowledge on the physical, biological, spiritual and social reality, generating so, more and new visions and valuations, as well as other skills of answering and solving researching problems. The teacher should not stay passive before a reality that surrounds them, an integral, humanist education is required, as well as an evaluation of their own praxis.
