Abstract

The eroticism and sexuality determine the action most of the stories of Barbey d’Aurevilly. Sensual passions, excesses, vices ... are key issues, from which comes the tragedy, and in almost all novels, particularly in L’Ensorcelée, Un Prêtre Marié y Les Diaboliques, the author has the chance to have historical or imagined facts that establish the depravity: L’Ensorcelée tells the orgies of the lords of Feuardent and Sang-d’Aiglon Haut-Mesnil, Un Prêtre Marié, the memory of the vices of the lords of Quesnay, although some characters are deprived of eroticism as Mme de Ferjol and daughter in Une Histoire Sans Nom.
