Code of ethics

Educatio Siglo XXI is a scientific journal that builds on the work done by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) to identify principles of transparency and best practices in scholarly publishing for the establishment of its code of ethics.

1. Website: Our journal's website (https://revistas.um.es/educatio) includes everything necessary for its readers, authors, reviewers and editors. Its editorial management aims to provide the best possible selection of the manuscripts we receive, avoiding information that may mislead readers and authors. The website states the objectives and scope of the journal, defines the target audience and the main subjects of interest, and clearly and accessibly displays the corresponding print and electronic ISSNs on the masthead.

2. Name of the journal: Educatio Siglo XXI is a unique name, sufficiently recognised by the international scientific community and does not lead to any confusion with that of another journal.

3. Peer review process: The manuscript selection and evaluation system used is double-blind peer review. This system follows the usual processes for the publication of serial scientific publications. Each article in the doctrine section received is reviewed by two reviewers guaranteeing the anonymity of both authors and reviewers. This process is clearly described on the website, in the process of managing the submission of a manuscript to the journal and, at no time, short review and editorial editing times are guaranteed.

4. Ownership and management: The ownership of the patrimonial rights of the published contents belongs to the Publications Service of the University of Murcia, as indicated in the Privacy and Intellectual Property section of the journal's website.

5. Governing body: Educatio Siglo XXI has an editorial team made up of the editors and managers of the journal, its Editorial Board, its Scientific Committee and its Advisory Committee. The editorial team is made up of recognised national and international experts in the subjects covered by the journal. At all times, efforts will be made to facilitate an equitable gender distribution in the governing bodies and to promote its internationalisation. The full names and affiliations of the journal's editors, as well as the journal's contact address, are provided.

6. Copyright and licensing: The copyright policy is clearly stated in the guidelines for authors and in the journal's open access policy. The copyright holder will be named on all published articles. In the latter document, it is clearly stated that authors may deposit final accepted versions or copies of published articles in third-party repositories, following the Open Science Principles.

7. Author fees: Educatio Siglo XXI i is a ‘diamond’ open access journal that does not charge any fees for the submission and publication of papers (NO-APC), nor does it charge any fee for reading its content. Educatio Siglo XXI is clearly committed to the Open Science paradigm and has signed the ‘Manifesto on Open Science as a global public good: non-commercial open access’ approved at the Toluca Summit in 2023.

8. Process for identifying and addressing allegations of research misconduct: The editorial team managing the journal will take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers in which research misconduct has occurred, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, falsification/fabrication of data, and inappropriate use of Artificial Intelligence in manuscript preparation, among others. In the event of becoming aware of any allegations of research misconduct related to an article published in your journal, COPE guidelines will be applied to deal with the allegations and to assess the rejection of the manuscript or possible retraction of an already published article if necessary.

9. Data sets: Educatio Siglo XXI, on the path towards Open Science, is committed to the repository of research datasets in line with all policies, mandates and initiatives reveal the value of research data, as well as the importance of being able to share and reuse them. It has therefore opened a collection in DIGITUM, the institutional repository of the University of Murcia, for the deposit of datasets linked to published articles. Authors can also deposit this information in any other general or thematic repository.

10. Publication calendar: Educatio Siglo XXI clearly informs of the annual periodicity of the publication in the ‘four-monthly’ mode (three issues per year, in February, June and October).

11. Access: access to all the contents of the journal is free of charge.

12. Archive: all journals published by the University of Murcia are housed in the institutional repository DIGITUM for the purpose of digital preservation.

13. Sources of income: Educatio Siglo XXI does not receive any type of financial subsidy. The journal's website is provided by the Publications Service of our university.

14. Publicity: Educatio Siglo XXI publicises the opening and closing of each issue on the main thematic distribution lists in our field of publications. It also has profiles on the social networks Facebook, X and Instagram for the dissemination of published articles.
