The problems of school learning in gypsy children from the perspective of primary education teachers
Abstract
The work presented is a cross-sectional, qualitative research that, based on the ignorance of most the population of our country of the school learning problems of gypsy students, uses an in-depth interview applied to teachers of primary education (EP), working at schools in the province of Jaén.
The objectives are: to know, through the views of teachers, the learning problems of gypsy children, to provide possible solutions, to find out if teachers are involved in helping those with learning difficulties and if they can improve their teaching.
The study was carried out in four schools in the city of Jaén, due to the high number of gypsy students attending these schools. We intend to open this research to more schools in a near future. The subjects were 12 teachers, 3 representing each school, one for each cycle of EP.
The most relevant conclusion, drawn from the views of teachers, is that parents are not involved enough in the education of their children, allowing their absences. This has as a result a lack of motivation and study.
