Motivational climate and goal orientation in soccer players of first division

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between motivational climate and goal orientation, in professional Peruvian football players. Also, we compare the motivational climate and goal orientation by age. The sample was conformed by 111 participants, between 17 and 35 years old, belonging to different football clubs (5) in Metropolitan Lima. Perceived Motivational Climate in Sport Questionnaire was used to measure the motivational climate and the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire was used to measure the goal orientation. Both questionnaires have psychometric properties for this sample. The main results we found were: a) the existence of relationship between the studied variables, showing a moderate positive relationship (,494) between task climate and task orientation b) there are no significant differences in studied variables by age.
