Abstract

Writer Ana Novac, who was deported to Nazi extermination camps as a teenager, notes down all things around her inviting to be written. All those scattered notes will be published under the title, Les Beaux de ma jeunesse (Paris, Julliard, 1968). The unquestionable documentary value of this diary is increased by the author’s ironic intentionality in the narration and description of the concentrationary universe. Starting from a discourse analysis, our frst objective is to study the “ironic look,” which the diarist projects on the concentrationary society, especially composed by the victimaries and her deportation fellows. Our second objective is to show the therapeutic goal enclosed in these oblique statements.
