Abstract

Interpreting languages with a common root can be considered as an easy task, but we have to be aware of linguistic interferences which are particularly frequent in these cases.

The aim of this article is to study the calques and “loan translations” made by simultaneous interpreting students who have French as first foreign language when they orally translate a text from French into Spanish. With this purpose in mind, we have conducted an experiment to analyse the interpretation of a speech on gastronomy made by fourth year students who are enrolled in the subject “Simultaneous Interpreting skills” at Córdoba University.

In this work, we will classify the types of calques/loan words, then we will analyse the texts and subjects, and finally we will show and comment the results of this research.
